The Green Communities team is joining up with the friends of Ford Park Cemetery to put on a range of nature themed events!

The Green Communities Project has been working closely to bring to light the amazing nature cemeteries have to offer. Join us for our quarterly seasonal events where we will be delving in to all sorts of different wildlife and habitats. Please feel free to book on to any of the events listed below at ticket selection!

  • Summer: Thursday 4th June 11-1pm - Wildflower walk- We will be going on an early summer walk around the cemetery learning how to identify the amazing flowers and plants you can find here!
  • Summer holidays: Thursday 23rd July 11-1pm - Tree ID walk with bark rubbings for kids- a summer stroll around with lots of tree identification. Suitable for children and adults!
  • Autumn: Thursday 22nd October. Times TBD (will be late evening/dusk)- Bat walk- join us in the evening for a guided bat walk around the cemetery
  • Winter: Thursday 4th February 11-1 - Winter tree ID walk - Wrap up warm for a morning of winter tree ID, learn how to identify your favourite trees without leaves.


Children, families, and pets are more than welcome at our events, however, we ask that anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult, and all dogs must be kept on leads.

Cancellation

In the event of a severe weather warning, this event may not go ahead. We will email you at the earliest convenience if the event is cancelled

Please let us know if you have booked a space but can no longer attend the session so we can fill your space!

Accessibility

The cemetery has mostly gravel pathing. Some of our events may stray off the pathed areas. If you have limited mobility, are a wheelchair user or have a young child in a pram, please feel free to contact us and we can let you know of any accessibility concerns/ issues.

What you need to bring

Green Communities will be providing any tools and resources needed for works, just bring yourselves and any items from the list below

  • Weather protection (wet weather coats, sun cream, hats etc)
  • Sturdy shoes you don't mind getting wet and muddy (our events may move on to some uneven paths)
  • Water bottle

Facilities

  • We will have access to the cemeteries visitor centre for all our events you are welcome to leave any bags in here as a volunteer will be present to ensure they are safe. Toilets and a cafe are also on site.
  • Parking: There is limited parking inside the cemetery grounds. If you need to bring a vehicle on site please contact us to let us know ahead of the event so we can ensure there is space for you.
  • Other parking includes free parking a short walk from site at Mutley Barracks PL4 6RR and Napier Terrace PL4 6ER or on street providing it is outside the allotted permit hours
