Central Park Ponds Project looking good!
We're excited to say that, following some temporary closures, the paths around the ponds are now open!
The Central Park Ponds Project is one of the Green Minds urban wilding projects which is transforming rainwater from a problem into a resource for wildlife and the community, by using a Sustainable Drainage System (SuDS). It harnesses the power of nature to improve the flow of rainwater and reduce flooding in a changing climate, in a way that complements the natural environment. The project is improving access, conserving heritage features and trees, creating a destination space, making homes for wildlife, and providing a place to learn about water and nature. Watch the video below to find out more.
We are pleased to say that the major landscaping phase of the project is complete. The contractors have now left site and all of the paths that were temporarily closed have now reopened.
The next phase of the project will be the planting around the ponds. Once the weather lets us, we'll be back in the spring to seed grass, plant trees, shrubs, and bushes to provide homes and food for wildlife. We are going to keep the heras fencing in place until then.
