Community orchard planting in Keyham!

A new orchard has been planted at Knowle Avenue, Keyham.

On 22nd March, a beautiful new orchard was planted at Knowle Avenue in Keyham as part of Green Minds improvements alongside the Keyham Greenspaces plan.

It was a team effort to plant the trees, with help from a mix of different organisations across the city, including Plymouth City Council Street Services, the Green Minds team, Devon Wildlife Trust, Mark & Olga from Black Dog Honeybees, and Jan from Keyham (St Mark) Scout group, plus a local police officer who came by.

This orchard will not only be wonderful for the community around Knowle Barton, who will be able to watch them blossom, grow, (and hopefully taste some of the fruit!), but also for wildlife around the area. Pollinators and birds will enjoy this new, tasty addition to Keyham, giving them another space to live in and to feed in.

One of the tree planters said: ‘it’s the perfect day for this…looking forward to seeing the trees grow and picking fruit in future’

We are looking forward to working with the Bears Cub pack again next week to create a hedgerow and sow wildflower seeds!
